I just had this discussion with my youngest son, Cameron, who I am on a father-son weekend away for a basketball tournament. I talked with him about how focusing on what you really want in life during the times when few others are putting in the extra practice and training is the answer to disciplining oneself to continuing to excel. There is no question about the principles you summarize here. I think the easiest thing to say and maybe the most challenging thing for us to do is manage our emotional state.
