I was working with one of my clients a few days ago around the process of refining his UPP- which is the unique promise and positioning he would make to his ideal clients.

The thing about the UPP is that it isn’t something you can just think of in a few minutes and then go on to something else.

Your UPP needs a lot of thinking ahead of time, and will be refined as you test it out in the marketplace.

I titled this post “Do Your Client Believe You?” because I suggest that each of you create the biggest and boldest UPP you can think of- one, of course, that you can deliver on.

There is no reason to make big, bold promises you can’t meet- that destroys your credibility.

Most people understand that end- but what they don’t understand is that usually, their UPP isn’t too bold- it’s too weak.

As I often say, “Greater sameness gets you exactly nowhere.”- this means that if you’re promising the exact same outcomes as your competitors, you are not positioning yourself properly in the marketplace.

You gain attention by working in specifics- so the more specific, relevant, and powerful your UPP is, the faster it will create results in your business.

The other mistake entrepreneurs make is in thinking they have to have their UPP absolutely perfect before they take it into the market.

Success loves speed, so delay is never good.

Instead, take your UPP out into the market, test it out and see how people respond.

This is the fastest way to get feedback, and can build up business momentum.
