Establishing Yourself as an Authority
One of the hallmarks of my business coaching system is that we help our clients create (and therefore own) their own niche category. This means that our clients develop proprietary coaching and business systems that set them apart from their competition.
Being able to rapidly establish yourself as an authority in your niche is the fastest way to gain attention and stand out in front of your clients. When you can demonstrate that you have experience in solving particular problems (combined with robust case studies and testimonials), you have done what is necessary to position yourself strongly with your potential clients.
What keeps people from moving forward and stepping into their own authority and brilliance around their chosen domain? It’s usually a combination of lack of support, feelings of unworthiness, and, of course, fear.
Lack of support shows up when you don’t have a business mentor or business coach supporting your goals and dreams. While our family and friends mean well, they are not always able to support us to the degree that we need in order to be rapidly and quickly successful. Sometimes our closest friends will criticize our ideas, or tell us to try another way, and our loved ones won’t see the potential of our ideas completely enough. This can create doubt and conflict.
Feeling unworthy is another factor we all must face. If we have been working for other people all our lives, it is difficult to make the leap to working for ourselves. There are so many things we don’t know, and so many things we need to learn. And we often need to learn quickly, because being an entrepreneur is often doing things first, quickly, and right the first time.
Fear is the third factor we must all master. Fear shows up many times during our entrepreneurial journey- when we are just starting our business, when we are able to make our first sale, when the pace starts to pick up and we have to run faster to keep up. Fear also shows up when we question if our ideas are good, and if anyone will buy our product or service.
When you’ve taken the time to address these three areas, you are on your way to establishing yourself as an authority in your niche. As you build your #1 expert status, it doesn’t mean you won’t need to still work on the areas of support, worthiness, and overcoming fear. It just means that maybe these won’t show up for as long, or won’t last as long, and you’ll eventually become more confident in your abilities and your capacity to dominate your niche market.

Hi, Glenn,
Boy you hit the nail on the head with this post. I can totally relate to everything you said. Especially the fear and feelings of unworthiness. Even though I was number ONE salesperson across Canada with one company, owned my own store for 6 years, and have had a lot of experience, training, and have taught hundreds of others’ over the years….I am not sure anyone would really want what I have to share. And HOW do I ‘package” what it is I have, if anything of value?
I am an “expert” in a few fields and haven’t been able to get clear enough which one I should really focus on……so go all over the place and try to do too many things at one time. ADDHD plays a role of course……and several other challenges…..but I don’t want to be a VICTIM anymore.
I want to SOAR and help others soar…..to go for it….
Thanks for sharing your truths and hearing that you used to be a School Principal and now are making money doing what you really love to do.
Blessings, Dazzling Dolly
