When you hear me talking about the term “speed to market”, that’s exactly what I mean. “Speed to market” means you get your idea out of your head, and into the market as fast as you can. I know I’ve mentioned this recently but it is worth repeating again.

How many ideas do you have in a day? If you’re like most entrepreneurs, you have at least a couple hundred ideas each day. Now, of course, it’s not feasible that you could act on all of them each day. But if we say that out of the 200 hundred ideas you have, maybe 10 of them are good- and 5 of them are really, really good. How many of the really, really good ideas do you act on each day?

Create More Value, Make More Money

Don’t be embarrassed, most people will answer none, or (rarely) 1. This is a big problem in most coaching programs today- they want to make sure you feel good and are happy and ready to take action. Not me, though. I will always opt for having you take action even if you don’t feel like it- all in the service of speed to market.

It’s not that I don’t care about my client’s feelings (I do!)- but, rather, I have seen, time and time again, how really, really good ideas never make it past the perfectionism test, and, as a result, are never taken to market.

The market is the best measure and gauge of how good an idea is. It might be a good idea, or it might be a great idea- but unless you put your ideas into the market, you’ll never know if you can make a business out of them.

One of my specialties is in helping people find the value in their own intellectual property; I send my clients through a system to rigorously and thoroughly extract every bit of value from every life experience they’ve had. This is key, because we are often the last to be be convinced of the worth and value of what we bring to the table. I focus on helping my clients step fully in their value, first, so they can sell and market with confidence.

High quality is good, and worth striving for. Perfectionism is not.

Just think- if the founders of Google, or Apple, or any other major company were waiting to get it perfect, we’d still be waiting. Each day you let your ideas sit in your head, without executing them, is one more day of lost opportunity.

So what are you waiting for? Stop worrying about getting it right. Start focusing on getting it going.
