How Close Are You To the Action?
As you may know, I visited Disneyland with my family a few weeks ago. It was a great vacation. We spent the day roaming around the park, riding the rides, eating good food, and attending concerts and live shows.
One of the concerts we saw was Aerosmith. My kids were thrilled. While at the concert, I noticed an interesting phenomena, one that is important for all of is in business today.
That phenomena was this: I noticed that the people in the first 10 rows of the concert were ecstatic. They were jumping up and down, dancing, singing, waving their arms. As I examined the rows of people behind them, I found that, generally, the concert goers were more restrained, less active, and seemed less enthusiastic.
This example clearly illustrates a core business principle: more stuff happens when you are close the action. The attendees who were up close to the stage were more excited, energized, and were having a lot more fun.
They were swept along by the music, being carried by momentum, and having a peak emotional experience.
This philosophy applies in business because the closer you are to the action, the more opportunities, events, and outcomes you experience. When we speak of building business momentum, we are talking about you putting yourself right in the middle of things- as close to the key players and top sources as you can get.
This is why, typically, higher end products and services tend to allow greater access to the source. I will always consider my Inner Circle mentees first for any opportunities, not only because I know them best, but, also, because they have committed to being close to the action.
If your business isn’t growing fast enough, or it doesn’t seem like much is happening, you’re probably sitting too far away from the stage. Do whatever it takes to get into the front row. Your business will radically transform.
