Intellectual Property Business Coaching: Intellectual Property is not just for the big companies anymore
In the Recommendation Age, Intellectual Property is NOT just for big companies or software companies.
The power of this age is that the old rules of how to value companies have not kept up with the realities of a world gone digital.
This is good news for each of us ordinary people who want to take our ideas to the market place and exchange our value for top dollar.
In fact, I have created a system to help entrepreneurs take their ideas and transform them into IP in a way that will prevent anyone from ever competing with you and at the same time have your ideal clients choose you for life.
Let me share with you a few insights on Intellectual Property I had after attending a Bryan Adams’ concert on Wednesday night in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. (I am here for a private networking event with Richard Branson and was given a free ticket to attend the concert. This is the first concert I have attended since a Shania Twain concert 7 years ago, but I digress!)
Let’s look at Bryan Adams’ song, ‘Heaven’. This is arguably one of his top songs.
What gives this more Intellectual Property (IP) than just about any other song he has written? Let’s examine this.
First of all the test of the value of Intellectual Property is in how much money does it generate? I know many of you are saying, yes, Bryan Adams’ is a singer and has made millions with this song, but I am not Bryan Adams.
Good. And I share with you this: you should NOT be Bryan Adams. My point is to show you that you have IP just like Bryan Adams and that there is a system that finally will show you how to objectively evaluate your ideas.
So back to my question: what makes this song so good—let’s evaluate the IP behind the song.
Bryan Adams does what he loves: he plays music. (IP is sourced from your passion.)
Bryan Adams never got it easy. He learned through his experiences what it took to become a great singer. (IP is sourced from your experiences).
Here’s an interesting note: Adams’ song, Heaven, was initially released inside of the movie, A Night In Heaven, that hit the movie theatres in 1983. Both the movie and Adam’s song were a flop.
It wasn’t until the very end that Adams’ decided to list this song on his album—against the advice of the experts—Reckless, that the song become the #1 hit single.
IP is sourced as an integration of your experiences—through what you have discovered through ‘The School Of Hard Knocks’ and your intellect—what are you trying to prove (which is the system that you create to solve a specific problem.)
Bryan Adams’ song, “Heaven”, has received the success it has because Bryan has tied his message about love in the form of lyrics (intellect) inside of a powerful medium—music—to leverage this.
Speed To Market Business Coaching Principle: IP is an interplay between context and content. Without the music (context) associated with lyrics (content), the song would never have been able to achieve the success that is has.
When talking about context, the IP associated with Bryan Adams’ song, “Heaven”, has this important factor that you must note for your success as an entrepreneur who wants to take your ideas and concepts into the market place.
NOTE: IP must be tied into one of six motivators that exist inside of human nature: love, gain or greed, duty, pride, self-indulgence, self-preservation.
In the case of “Heaven”, Bryan Adams had to create the right genre of music and and tie this into a very specific system of musical notes to leverage the power of his lyrics.
A new term I have created in IP Development that communicates leverage (ie 1 + 1 = 3, 4, 10…) is Asset Bundling™ which helps entrepreneurs do for their ideas and concepts what Bryan Adams has been able to do with his song, Heaven.
Inside of our Mentoring Alliance at http://SellHighPricedPrograms.com, we can help you leverage your passion and turn it into extremely valuable IP.
To Your Intellectual Property!
