What’s actually is IN a dream?

Weird question, right?

Actually I thought a lot about this while I was away on a special Father/Son getaway.

My oldest Calum and I just got back from an amazing Father/Son trip as an 8th grade graduation gift. (Calum was also class valedictorian.)

Fiona and I decided a couple of years ago that when our boys graduate from elementary and high school that their father (me!) would take each of them on a special trip—a one-on-one time with their dad (me!).

So what’s really in a dream?

“A dream is really nothing more than a big challenge you give yourself.”

Write it down. This definition comes from Press Maravich, the father of the legendary and Basketball Hall-of-Famer, Pete Maravich. (My boys have watched the movie Pistol Pete a couple of times just recently.)

The message is really short.

BUT like ‘Speed-to-Market’ success, you need to have a way of shortening the execution curve so that you can implement faster than your competitors.

What does ‘Speed-to-Market’ success look like?

Here are 3 business coaching training principles (of the over 300 that I use with clients) to consider to help you accelerate your day (With a Bahamian theme!)

1. ‘You MUST be close to the source of momentum’. I could have enjoyed the Bahamas virtually by watching others’ videos online. Or I could visit the island myself (and with Calum!) and experience everything first hand.

Since it was a Father/Son trip (with my oldest son), I can believe that anything except the real thing would have been acceptable, especially to Calum.

2. ‘Strategy on the fly’. When Calum and I arrived in the Bahamas we planned our stay by executing in the moment with the help of a great Bahamian guide (mentor) who helped us plan our stay.

Proper mentorship is essential to helping all of us understand a new paradigm and execute within that paradigm. To attempt to go it alone or rely on books prevents you from truly executing in the moment.

The research of Edgar Dale (Call up Google and click on ‘Images’) and then type in ‘Cone of Learning’ and you will see how people learn and why they need DAILY help.

3. ‘He/she who self reflects the greatest controls market places today.’

Calum and I spent a lot of time dreaming and self reflecting on his life and where he wants to go. One of his dreams is to get a D1 scholarship in basketball in the US. We reflected on all that he has to do and work on to make this a reality.

Two keys to make self reflection work for you:

A. Outline your system for solving a specific problem. To help you with strategic focus ask yourself, “What am I proving?” That is, how specifically will your system help solve your prospective clients’ specific problems.

You want to create your system so it provides you a specific way to see the world. This will allow you to generate the three types of data that are crucial to your business.

You are paid as an entrepreneur to self reflect on three types of data that are crucial to your business. In a previous video located on this blog I spoke about three types of data that are critical for your business success.

B. The second key to remember as you self reflect follows one of the principles in our UPP program: ‘You self reflect ON the past, IN the present, FOR the future.’

You have so many assets from your life experiences that when you begin to truly self reflect properly it will make you mind spin on what is possible for your life!
