One of the first coaching questions I ask my high level mentoring clients is “What Are You Paid For?”- and, surprisingly, many of them do not know. This is despite that fact that they have been in business for years, and have sold products or services all along. But, as often happens, the very simplest coaching question can be the most powerful, and most entrepreneurs don’t know what they are paid for.

So, if you were one of my coaching clients and I asked you what you were paid for, what would you say?

While you’re defining your answer, let me give you concepts to consider.

As an expert, you aren’t paid for information. You’re paid for your skills, knowledge, and attitude. Anyone can get information for free on the internet. It’s the specifics of how to apply information to create a desired result that people will pay for.

The marketplace is very portable, versatile and interactive- which means there is a lot of opportunity for you to niche and be very specific about how your knowledge and expertise creates real results. The more you focus on specific and valuable results, the more people will pay to work with you.

When defining what you do, be sure to focus on real benefits to your ideal clients, and emphasize how you can help them achieve desired results in less time, with less effort, or more significantly.

When you are asked what you do, respond by speaking to the problems you help resolve.

The market rewards people who create results. So when you want to answer “What Are You Paid For?”- be sure you focus on real results, real benefits, and real value. You’ll have people clamoring to work with you.
