In every business arena, and product and service category, there are thousands of competitors fighting for the same client. This is why positioning is so important. The ultimate benefit of strong positioning is that potential clients will see you as their top choice to do business with and purchase from.

Although I started this post speaking of competition, the truth is that positioning is not about competing. Positioning is about differentiation. You need to be able to differentiate yourself (and the products and services you’re promoting) well enough that you become a “stand-out” choice in the client’s mind.

Unless you categorize and position yourself correctly, you will find it difficult to easily explain what you do. Positioning is the way in which you want current and potential customers to think about your business. If your business offers a great service which results in a higher return on investment, make sure you position your business in this way.

Create More Value, Make More Money

Positioning is strengthened by congruity; this means that if you say you get certain results, you can demonstrate proof of these if asked. As competition grows in any industry, it becomes even more important to find and maintain solid positioning.

Your positioning must be reflected in every communication and interaction with your company, and should be reflected in the client stories you share and the results you claim. Positioning can sometimes be a tricky process, but is worth spending time on. When you have the right positioning, everything else is easier.
